Multipurpose Teaching and Simulation Lab
GRAFTON, MA
Envisioned as a vibrant and collaborative teaching environment, the new multipurpose teaching and simulation lab (MTSL) will provide a new program space to increase and improve student clinical preparedness in surgical training and the practice of other clinical techniques, in general technical skills, and in developing the competency and confidence to decisively respond to a variety of time-critical medical conditions. The MTSL Facility will be located in the Lerner Spay/Neuter Clinic, totaling approximately 7,000 sf.
Using a phased approach, the project addresses deficiencies in the existing facilities, creating flexible facilities that will support current curricular needs, and changing pedagogical needs. Phase 1 creates an Induction Room and Surgical Training Lab. The facility is scheduled to open in 2021. The Phase 2 Simulation Lab & Wellness Center will create the MTSL facility and Wellness Clinic that will provide dental and primary care for employees and staff pets. The larger phase within the MTSL project is built around the new Simulation Lab. Like the adjacent Surgical Training Lab, the Sim Lab will provide a variety of configurations opportunities for students to develop skills and practice procedures using Sim models and mannequins.
